A Grade II Georgian frontage restored with slimline sashes
A Grade II listed Georgian house on Marlow high street with 12 original single-glazed sashes, several beyond economic repair. The listing officer wanted a solution that preserved sightlines exactly while lifting thermal performance.
The challenge
Listed building consent demanded matching sight-lines within 2mm, run-through horns, and a putty-line finish. Half the boxes had rotted at the sill and needed splicing rather than replacement to satisfy the conservation officer.
Our solution
We spliced original boxes where viable and manufactured slimline dual-glazed timber-alternative sashes with authentic ovolo mouldings, run-through horns and traditional weights. A heritage six-panel front door in a hand-mixed heritage green completed the frontage.
The outcome
Listing officer signed off at first inspection. Street-facing appearance is indistinguishable from the 1780 original. Owners report a 40% reduction in gas usage across the first winter.
