Back Doors — London & the Home Counties
The low-threshold sill
The standard 45mm weathered cill is what most back doors get — and what most homeowners live with. Our Part M compliant 15mm aluminium threshold with drainage channels transforms the door into a genuinely level entry from tile to terrace — invisible until you stop tripping over it.
Overview
The door that quietly does the work — everyday access to the garden, the utility, the bins and the shed. Ours are as secure, as warm and as well-locked as any front door, in the material and configuration that suits how you actually use the back of the house.
uPVC, aluminium or composite frame · half-glazed obscured privacy glass · Yale multi-point hook locking · 3-star TS 007 anti-snap cylinder · A-rated argon glazing
Half-Glazed by Default
Obscured privacy glass in the upper half lets light into a utility or hallway without exposing a full glazed door to the garden. Fully glazed and solid-panel variants also available.
PAS 24 Multi-Point Locking
Same locking specification as the front door — multi-point hook, 3-star anti-snap cylinder, laminated inner glazing. Back doors are the entry point insurers ask about.
Low-Threshold Option
Standard 45mm weathered cill or Part M compliant 15mm low-threshold aluminium sill for wheelchair, pushchair and step-free access to the garden.
Cat-Flap Ready
We machine cat-flap apertures at manufacture — clean, sealed and weather-tight — rather than the retrofit hole a joiner cuts on-site.
Colour-Fast Finish
Chartwell Green, Painswick, Anthracite, Cream, Rosewood and 15+ more stocked as deep-grain foils or spray-applied RAL finishes.
Three material ranges, one configuration.
The back configuration is available across every one of our door ranges — the material choice is yours.
uPVC
A-rated, PAS 24 secure, 25-year colour-fast. The everyday specification for front, back and French doors.
Aluminium
Slim polyamide-broken frames, any RAL, 20-year finish guarantee. The contemporary choice.
Composite
44mm solid timber core with a GRP skin — kerb appeal of painted timber, maintenance of engineering.
Engineered to the millimetre.

Practical answers.
Everything homeowners ask us about back doors — survey, lead times, guarantees and coverage.
Do back doors need the same security as front doors?+
Yes — most insurers require the same PAS 24 multi-point locking and 3-star anti-snap cylinder on every external door. A back door onto a fenced-off garden is not lower risk; it's often higher because it's less overlooked.
What material for a back door?+
uPVC for hard-wearing everyday use and value. Composite where the back door is on view from the garden and needs to match the front. Aluminium where the door reads through to a contemporary rear elevation. All three carry identical security.
Can I have a cat-flap?+
Yes — machined into the door at manufacture, so it's clean, sealed, insulated and weather-tight. Petsafe, SureFlap and Cat-Mate are the three brands we fit as standard.
When should I choose a low threshold?+
A Part M compliant 15mm threshold with drainage channels is ideal for families with young children, wheelchair users, or anyone who regularly moves furniture or garden equipment through the door.
