Victorian Conservatories — London & the Home Counties

Signature detail

The faceted bay

The angled facets of the front elevation — three or five, always symmetrical — are what makes a Victorian a Victorian. Each pane is cut individually and the corner uprights are structurally reinforced to carry the steeply-pitched roof without visible mullion. It's the geometry that catches sun through the day and reads as period architecture from the garden.

Overview

The definitive period conservatory — a bay-fronted faceted plan (three- or five-sided) with a steeply-pitched glass roof, cresting and finial. Sympathetic to Victorian and Edwardian houses and, done properly, capable of reading as if it has always been there.

01

Faceted 3- or 5-Sided Plan

Three-facet for a shallower footprint, five-facet for a wider bay — either configuration angled to catch morning or afternoon sun.

02

Steep Ornate Glass Roof

Steeply-pitched glazed roof with decorative cresting along the ridge and a finial at the apex — the silhouette that defines the style.

03

Period-Correct Detailing

Georgian bar overlays, dentil crown mouldings, ornate ridge cresting and cast-look aluminium finials — specified to match the era of the host building.

04

A-Rated Solar-Control Glass

Modern low-emissivity self-cleaning glazing gives the ornate silhouette without the summer greenhouse effect.

05

Reinforced uPVC or Aluminium

Structurally-graded uPVC in the traditional white or heritage cream, or thermally-broken aluminium if you want the classic profile in a modern powder-coat.

Common questions

Practical answers.

Everything homeowners ask us about victorian conservatories — survey, lead times, guarantees and coverage.

Is a Victorian conservatory suitable for a modern house?+

It's designed to complement pre-1920s architecture — Victorian, Edwardian and older. On a modern build, a lean-to or orangery normally sits better. We advise honestly at survey.

Three-facet or five-facet — how do I choose?+

Three-facet works on narrower footprints (typically under 3.5m wide) and reads as more compact. Five-facet suits wider elevations and gives a longer sightline across the bay. Orientation to the sun is the deciding factor.

Do I need planning permission?+

Most Victorian conservatories fall under permitted development. If your home is listed or in a conservation area, full planning is likely and we handle the application on your behalf.

Will it be warm in winter?+

Yes — solar-control A-rated glass, argon-filled units and underfloor heating make a Victorian conservatory usable year-round. A warm-roof conversion is also available if you want the fully-insulated ceiling.

What colours are available?+

Traditional white and heritage cream are stocked. Any RAL or foil-wrapped heritage colour is available to order across the range.
