Georgian Bar Windows — London & the Home Counties
Duplex-butt jointing
At every intersection the bar is mechanically jointed rather than moulded — the intersection has the same visual weight as the surrounding bar, exactly as a real timber glazing bar would. It's the detail that separates a heritage bar from a printed grille.
Overview
The single detail that turns a modern window into a period one. Georgian and astragal bars in 18mm or 25mm profile, jointed with authentic duplex-butt at every intersection, in through-frame, internal or external configurations — across all three of our window ranges.

Through-Frame Astragal Bars
The bar physically passes through the sealed glass unit — the most convincing option and the one most likely to secure planning consent in conservation areas.
18mm or 25mm Profile
Two heritage widths — 18mm for slimmer Regency and Victorian proportions, 25mm for the deeper bars typical of Georgian and Edwardian properties.
Duplex-Butt Jointing
Bar intersections are mechanically jointed rather than moulded — the joint has the same visual weight as the surrounding bar, exactly as a real timber glazing bar would.
Any Layout
6-over-6, 8-over-8, 6-over-1 (Victorian sash), 2-over-2 (Edwardian), diamond, marginal-light — matched to the age and style of the property.

Practical answers.
Everything homeowners ask us about georgian bar windows — survey, lead times, guarantees and coverage.
Which bar option is most authentic?+
Through-frame 18mm astragal bars with duplex-butt jointing at the intersections — the bar physically passes through the sealed glass unit rather than being applied internally or externally. It is the most convincing option and the one most likely to secure planning consent in a conservation area.
What's the difference between astragal and Georgian bars?+
Colloquially they refer to the same thing — a bar that visually divides a window into smaller panes. Strictly, an astragal is the moulded profile of the bar itself; Georgian refers to the layout (typically 6-over-6). Our bars are moulded astragal profiles in the classical Georgian, Regency and Victorian layouts.
Do bars reduce thermal performance?+
Through-frame bars reduce whole-window U-value by roughly 0.1 W/m²K vs an equivalent bar-free unit. Internal-grille and external-applied bars have no thermal penalty because they don't cross the sealed unit.
Can I have Georgian bars on a bay window?+
Yes — on any bay, bow or sash configuration. We match the bar profile, colour and jointing across the whole assembly.
