The country-kitchen door — split top and bottom so the upper leaf can swing open on a warm afternoon while the lower stays closed against the dog, the toddler and the wind. Ours are engineered to hold their line when both leaves are used independently, not just decorative.
The shoot-latch meeting rail
The difference between a proper stable door and a decorative one is a machined shoot-latch at the meeting rail. On ours a spring-loaded steel bolt drops into a mortice as soon as the top leaf closes onto the bottom — the pair becomes structurally rigid, no rattle, no draught, no play.

Independent Top & Bottom
Each leaf hinges independently with its own multi-point lock. Open the top for light and airflow; open both for full access. Or lock together as a single door.
Locking-Latch Meeting Rail
A machined shoot-latch in the mid-rail holds the two leaves together and rigid when both are closed — no rattle, no draught, no play.
PAS 24 Security
Multi-point hook locking on each leaf independently, laminated inner glazing on any window insert. Both leaves locked = same security as a solid door.
Heritage Colours
Chartwell Green, Sage, Cream, Painswick, Off-Black — the classic country-cottage palette in deep-grain colour-fast foils. Any RAL to order.
Half-Glazed Top
Optional glazed panel in the upper leaf — for light through a rear kitchen or utility even when the top is closed.

Are stable doors as secure as a single door?+
Yes when both leaves are closed and locked. The shoot-latch at the meeting rail plus a multi-point hook lock on each leaf means the two behave structurally as one solid door — PAS 24 certified.
Do the two leaves rattle?+
Not on ours. A machined shoot-latch in the meeting rail engages when the top is closed onto the bottom — no gap, no play, no wind noise. Basic stable doors skip this and rattle within a year.
Can I have a stable door in uPVC?+
Yes — often the best-value option and available in the same heritage colour palette as our composite range. Composite reads more like traditional painted timber for country cottages.
What sizes are standard?+
Split ratio is 60/40 (taller bottom, shorter top) as standard, or 50/50 on request. Total door size is any bespoke opening up to 2.1m tall × 1m wide.
