Fixed Picture Windows — London & the Home Counties

Signature detail

30mm of aluminium, everywhere else glass

A fixed picture window has no gearing, no hinges, no meeting stile — just the outer frame. That's why our sightline drops to 30–45mm on a fixed aluminium picture window, versus 55mm+ on an equivalent opening sash.

Overview

When the glass is the design. A fixed pane in a thermally-broken aluminium frame with sightlines as slim as 30mm — up to 2.7m tall — the frameless-look window we sit above bifolds, between structural piers or at the head of a stairwell.

Specification

Thermally-broken aluminium profile (Smart Systems / AluK) · Qualicoat Class 2 polyester powder coat · argon-filled toughened double glazing · silicone-sealed structural glazing on request

01

Up to 2.7m Tall

A single fixed lite up to 2.7m tall and 3.5m² per panel with standard toughened double glazing. Larger sizes are possible with structural glass and site lifting.

02

30mm Sightlines

Ultra-slim 30–45mm sightlines on a fixed frame — up to 40% more visible glass than an equivalent uPVC unit.

03

No Moving Parts

Because they don't open, there are no hinges, gaskets or locking points to fail — a fixed picture window will outlast every other window on the property.

04

Above Bifolds & Sliders

The natural pairing for a bifold or sliding door — a fixed head light above brings full-height light without adding another opening door.

05

Any RAL Powder Coat

Any RAL finish, single or dual colour, Qualicoat Class 2 powder coat guaranteed for 20 years.

06

Structural Glazing Compatible

Fixed picture windows can be integrated into structural glazing runs, glass-to-glass corners and frameless roof lights — we supply and coordinate the assembly.

Common questions

Practical answers.

Everything homeowners ask us about fixed picture windows — survey, lead times, guarantees and coverage.

How big can a fixed picture window be?+

Up to 2.7m tall and roughly 3.5m² per panel with our standard glass. Larger sizes are possible using structural glass with additional lifting equipment on site — we survey and quote separately for anything over that.

Can you fit one above bifold doors?+

Yes — a fixed head light above a bifold or slider is our most common configuration for full-height rear extensions. We coordinate the head detail, structural opening and colour match as one order.

Do fixed windows meet Building Regs for ventilation?+

A fixed window on its own doesn't provide ventilation, so Approved Document F requires another means of purge ventilation in the room. On a rear extension this is usually satisfied by the adjacent bifold or slider. We check the room-by-room ventilation plan at survey.

How do fixed windows differ from opening windows?+

Fixed windows have no gearing, hinges or opening gaskets, so they achieve slimmer sightlines and have fewer moving parts. They are ideal where another opening already provides ventilation.
