Edwardian Conservatories — London & the Home Counties

Signature detail

The right-angled plan

The corners are the point. Right angles mean sofas sit flush against the wall, dining tables extend to their proper length, and the room furnishes like any other. It's the least fashion-led of the traditional shapes and the one that ages best — a room, not a feature.

Overview

Square or rectangular in plan with a pitched hipped roof, the Edwardian is the most practical of the traditional conservatory styles. The right-angled corners give the most usable floor area for a given footprint, so it fits a dining table, a sofa or both — comfortably.

01

Rectangular Floor Plan

Right-angled corners give roughly 25–30% more usable floor area than an equivalent-footprint Victorian.

02

Hipped Pitched Roof

A four-sided pitched roof with ridge and hip bars — the elegant traditional silhouette that reads well against Edwardian and inter-war homes.

03

Furniture-Friendly

Straight walls take standard-depth sofas, sideboards and dining tables against them — impossible with an angled Victorian bay.

04

A+ Rated Glazing

Argon-filled low-emissivity units with warm-edge spacer bars — U-values from 0.9 W/m²K in the walls.

05

Any Colour, Any Bar Layout

White, cream, chartwell green, anthracite grey or any RAL, with or without Georgian bar overlays on the glass.

Common questions

Practical answers.

Everything homeowners ask us about edwardian conservatories — survey, lead times, guarantees and coverage.

Edwardian or Victorian — which is better?+

Edwardian gives more usable floor area for the same footprint and is easier to furnish; Victorian is more architecturally distinctive. If you want a dining conservatory, Edwardian normally wins; if you want a statement, Victorian.

Is it a good fit for a modern house?+

Yes — of the traditional styles, the Edwardian's clean right-angled geometry sits most comfortably on a modern semi or detached, especially specified in anthracite grey aluminium.

Can I have an Edwardian with a warm roof?+

Absolutely — a hipped tiled warm roof suits the Edwardian shape beautifully and gives the room a proper vaulted plaster ceiling with downlights, keeping the warm-roof U-value at 1.0 – 1.4 W/m²K.

What sizes do you build?+

From 3m × 3m up to 6m × 4m as a standalone; larger footprints move into P-shape or orangery territory.
