A 6m × 4m garden studio for a client working from home four days a week. The brief demanded true year-round comfort — not a summerhouse — with a 4m sliding door opening to a new patio.

A year-round garden room studio in Harpenden — Harpenden, Hertfordshire

The challenge

The plot sloped over 600mm across the footprint, and the client wanted no visible steps at the threshold. Building regs required full insulation, ventilation, and electrical certification for a habitable-standard studio.

Our solution

We laid a screw-pile foundation to level the slope, built a fully insulated SIPs shell with a standing-seam zinc roof, and glazed the front elevation with a 4m two-track aluminium slider. Underfloor heating, MVHR ventilation, and a Cat-6 network came as standard.

The outcome

The client uses the studio 250+ days a year. Winter internal temperature holds 21°C with the heating on a low setting. Zero condensation reported across the first winter.
